Interesting light that UK!

However I cannot find anyplace selling it with the lantern grip. Anyone?

I bought the grip from my LDS. I believe it's the same one that the light canon uses.

Edit: P.S.: NJMike, you may want to start a separate discussion elsewhere regarding stops, strategy, offgasing etc. The Dive medicine forum might be good ;)

NJMike:
But I think the Canon is alot more money...but I'm more interested in why the pistol grip would not work in a penetration. I've never used either a light or a reel, so I am imagining (at least, trying to imagine) what it would be like.

The reel is used to let out a line so that you can follow your way back? How does the light handle style affect that? Is using the reel a two handed operation?

Using a reel is very much a two handed operation. The benefit of having a lanter grip is that it can just hang in your hand while you grip the reel, if you're using a pistol you have to grip the handle and the reel, which is a lot to get your hands around. Now Imagine having to hold a light and a reel while reeling in your line and taking down the tie-off points. It gets to be a handfull which is why most wreck diving is done with cannister lights...
And yes the reel is used so that you can find your way out again if you become disoriented, which can happen quite easily. It's also quite handy if you end up in a siltout situation where you can't see anything etc. etc. If you're planning on doing penetrations I'd for sure go and get some proper training. It's not getting in the wreck that's tricky, it's getting out.

Just broke down and purchased a c8 eLED plus. Got it today. Hope to do some afternoon and night diving this weekend. Will provide feedback once I get it wet.

And yes, it can be equipped with the same lantern handle that the UK Light Cannon uses.

When shown against the wall at my LDS, it was not as bright as the light cannon nor did it have as focused a beam. When I tried it outside this evening it was fairly bright but seemed to have somewhat of a bluish tint.

B.G., yes please let me know how it works this weekend.

S. Starfish, now I understand. You did a great job describing it in words...thanks. The C8 eLED has a handle that can be changed from the pistol grip to the lantern grip, which sounds like a good feature.

The real test will be in-water, since the electronics prevents it from running at full brightness in air. I'm still wondering how to get that lantern grip. The couple of places I've checked online have the light with pistol grip, don't see an option for lantern.

diversdiscount.com has uk lantern grips for $8 bucks just do a search on their site

Yes, I think you have to buy it with the pistol grip, buy the lantern grip separately and switch them out. I did so as my LDS also had the lantern grip available as an accessory, for $10.

So did you get a chance to try it this weekend?
