has anyone seen acropora prolifera out there?

Yes, but not in Florida waters (it may be there, but I haven't observed it).
 
Not so much these days. Here at the NSF we have articles out on the intranet saying how difficult it is to find any acropora these days. I do know of a "secret" place which had loads of acropora but when I went back a few years later I literal flotilla of moorings boats with their anchors draped all over them and now they are pretty much dead.
 
I spotted some near Looe Key, back in '98... man was that a hot summer.
 
zboss: by acropora i think you mean a. prolifera right? because elkhorn (a. palmata) and staghorn (a. cervicornis) are everywhere. hell, i saw some staghorn snorkeling at grecian rocks and i havent even tried looking. thats cool cuz it was the first acro ive seen in the wild, ive seen montipora before but in hawaii.
