was on a photo dive and was amused to see one trying to get on jonix's leg... he didn't notice as the remora didn't get close enough...

then when i was busy taking photos the bugger started to nip on my leg!

didn't hurt but what a bother! needless to say no decent photo for those 2 minutes... i think i have a photo of the remora w/ jonix in another computer...

ninja edit: just watched the video - i wear the same fins! (apollo bio pros) it wants to hump the rubber hahahaha!

I see them pretty often and don't pay any attention to them. For some reason, this time of year, (whale shark season?) we see some over 2 feet long.
The little ones get pissed of you try and uush them away and come back and try to nip at me.

I remembered an old post from way back where MBH reported in a thread on an aggressive parrotfish, that he'd gotten bitten on the nipple by a remora. This link should take you to it. So evidently while letting them mess around with you may be amusing, be careful of 'protruding fleshy bits' that might get attacked. Someone in this thread already reported having an ear attacked, for example. I don't know whether they'd go after fingers or toes.

Richard.

Remoras seem to love me... Being on the rebreather I make no bubbles, and often a curious one will have its way with me when surfacing from a drift dive here off S. florida... Often to the amusement of my buddy and girlfriend....

On a dive in Dauin I had a small one, named Ramona by my dive buddies, get up between my thighs. Bugged me a little at first but since I couldn't get her to go away and my buddies were pointing and laughing, I just kept diving. Then she started trying to nibble off a single, tiny hair on my left earlobe. When the dive was over my earlobe was raw. Yes, it left a mark.

Two days ago while diving in the Keys I felt something tickling my knee and looked down to find a small (~5 inch) remora. I was a bit girly about it and brushed it away, so it then spent the rest of the dive swimming along my husband's legs--his leg hair prevented it from attaching, however. It was pretty cute!

The little one is actually a shark sucker not a remora. He actually latched onto several members of our dive group, Jen was the only one he tried to latch onto that wasn't wearing a wet suit. She said it felt kind of like someone had laid a sheet of sand paper on her thigh and it did leave a few scrapes. They were really neat right up until the remoras started nipping. We never did see anything they might have been riding before us. There are a couple more pictures on our site: Belize April 2010 - philandjen's Photos
