Has anybody tried the experiment of taping splits closed?

Has anyone tried taping split fins closed? Something like gorilla brand duct tape, to see what difference (if any), it really makes. Cheap and reversable to try. In the 70's I used voit giant vikings, and the shape was rather similar to apollos as I recall.
 
How about just taping one closed, then see if you go clockwise or counterclockwise, and note which fin has the tape?

The obverse someone suggested in the other thread of splitting one paddle fin approach.
