Started it today. Went in to a Waldenbooks last night with no intention of buying it. Told the missus they were probably sold out and they were. Unless you had one on reserve. I did not. While looking around this guy came in who did have one reserved for his daughter. Asked how much it was. Clerk said 22.43 with tax. Oh he said. My wife told me not to spend more than 20.99. SO he friggin canceled it! What a dip! His battleaxe must have told him if it was more than 20.99 to go to another store where they had it reserved for that price. Poor sap probably spent 5 bucks in gas to go to the other store to save 1.44. Anyway the clerk asked me if I wanted it and without realizing I have not read ANY of the other ones promptly whipped out the wallet. It sucks. Not the book, but the fact that now I gotta do like others and go buy and read the other 6.

I think they still have public libraries somewhere. . . ;)

Jim, i paid $25AUD for my copy and $29 seemed the average BUT at the airport yesterday it was sellinig for a "discounted price" of $49.95!!!

last night finished the wedding chapter..... Mrs Weasley should be a wedding co-ordinator :D

almitywife:
John, do you want me to mail you my copy in your next care package????

No I think my moms is sending me a copy. . . or thats the rumor ;) If I don't get one I will find one here someplace :D

I have bullets ;)

read the first six installment firsts! HP7 explains a lot of what has happened in the previous installments.

and oh btw, back here in PI, we get a free copy of HP6 for every purchase of HP7. how cool is that?

heheeh Maggie - i had to buy the 6 books when i picked up #7 as a sheer impulse/peer pressure buy!!

but i cant wait so reading #7 then going back to #1!

Leesa..... Fred dies!!!!! :crying: im still getting over the shock of Snape killing Dumbledore

I'm trying not to read it too fast. Plan on taking it with me this week when I fly to California. First leg to phoenix is around 5 hours so I should get a good bit of it in then. Most likely no time to read there. If I don't finish it on the way out it'll be done on the way back. Might pick up one of the first ones in Monterey.

in Book 6 Snape makes an unbreakable promise to Malfoys mother...that if Malfoy can't complete his assigned task, he will.....so we knew that something was going to happen....but there is so much more to it....keep reading my dear.

I wish Umbridge would have suffered some more damage then just losing the necklace...the same applies to Skeeter....

All the losses hit home...:(...but it was not in vain...

This writing in this series has grown so much throughout the years, the story has grown in complexity, the characters have evolved so well. This is definitely the best one! Kudos to J K Rowling.

-Agree with Laurens- the sheer number of deaths is staggering. This is going to be a difficult read for all the HP fans, especially the younger ones. They are going to need help & support to understand that while this is fiction, the ideals the led the characters to make the choices that led to their deaths are worthy ones.

-I've always believed that Snape's real loyalty would turn out to be toward Harry & Dumbledore, so I was not surprised.

-I was surprised & impressed by the way that JKR revealed a less than noble past for Dumbledore- it sends a message that we are all capable of overcoming bad choices, guilt & shame to turn our lives around.

-Loved how Ron & Neville both came into their own. So did other characters but they really stood out in my mind.

-Harry's sacrifice- the fear & his conquering of it were very well written.

-The final battle between HP & LV was also very good- the dialog between the two, the attempts to talk LV into repentance & most especially, the wand.

-The epilogue felt somewhat unneeded & thoughtlessly written- except for the second son's name & the tribute that Harry played to Snape.

I have to say that I see a lot of the story of Christ, his disciples, & his ministry in this book, especially when Harry went to LV & laid down his life, only to come back from the dead. Same type of allegory as contained in the Lion, the Witch, & the Wardrobe.
