*mine* is the 36# pioneer. never hit me anywhere.
Hi, Blargh. Do you dive often without a hood? Or have long, thick hair?

- in a pool, once
- no :)

but snagging hair is not exactly the same as hitting head, is it ?

I didn't notice it until almost an hour had passed on my first warm-water dive, and it didn't become a problem until late into the second hour-long dive. A short pool dive might not be enough to notice the effect.

I mentioned long, thick hair not in the snagging context, but rather as an abrasion deterrent.

Its the "new style" 36# pioneer - the one with the built in STA , which I'm sure is the same one that metridium is using. I happen to use it with a separate STA, but that wouldn't change the wing's position, would it? (I've also used it without the STA)

Soo....

Either my skull is too thick for me to notice (possible)
Or my neck wont bend enough backwards (possible)
OR

You're right.

It would extend the wing out a couple of inches, wouldn't it?

Or you haven't tried it enough without a hood for it to rub a spot raw. Give it time. :)

Certainly not. The stacking order (front to back) is : diver, backplate, wing, STA, tank, so the STA goes between the wing and the tank. The positioning of the wing does not change at all whether there is a STA there or not.

Will test, will report =-)

Right. Was getting confused with Halcyon touting that the new wing had a 2"-3" lower profile....which of course came from the distance between tank and wing, not wing and plate. :embarrass:

RE: the buckle...are they the newer octo grip? I had the same issue, and noticed by measuring that the gap had actually widened over time. It was pretty easy to bend it closed a little bit-that eliminated the issue for me.
