AquaTec once bubbled...
if the movement of air is better than those damb bungies tell me why specificly
And I will answer your question from the other thread too.

It is mostly about minimizing drag but has to do with balance too.

Without the bugees the wings lay flat against the tanks producing minimal drag... and it is easy to tip a little to one side and let air go from one wing into the other to balance out what would otherwise be an imbalanced load. So you can have all your deco cylinders on the left side where you can manage them with your left hand while you run your scooter with your right hand. :D

But then I have never loaded myself down with a bunch of 80s rigged at right angles to one another so I suspect I might not fully understand how or why you are doing things.

Looking at the picture you posted in the other thread though... I see you are not rigged to move through the water with minimal drag in horizontal trim... is this just for bouncing down to a certain depth and then ascending back up???

ahh now i know why nobody really post pictures of themselves diving.

this paticular dive was in Truk Lagoon using their tanks [all they had was 80's] and they could only do nitrox fills to between 1700 psi and 2200 psi so hince the need for additional tanks. and guess what all the bottom gas was air, as there is no helium in Truk.

on this particular dive we where at 220 for 60 minutes and we hung the tanks on the wreck to provide for penetration. [not something i would recomend, but there was no current and the vis was about a mile, and the ships are built for small japanese sailors]

the perpindicular apperance is probably because thay are empty, or close to it. and I am in a vertical posision in the water, probably goofing off with one of the other team mates durring deco.

and yes I am not swimming through the water as it is set up. other than to and from the wreck

the tank that is hard top see is a stage bottle that was retrieved from the inside of the wreck, simular to what you would do on a staged cave penetration dive.

the flat wings do make some since for drag. I use the dive rite in caves. but i also would say that the bunggied wings offer little resistance as they take up a smaller surface area. and there is no body positioning required to maintain trim [or wouldn't it be yall] and for the tanks I don't need to compensate for an unbalanced load so i don;t require my wings to allow me to move air all to one side. seems like a lot of compensation is going on here. what if your wings fail, do you use a double bladder.

you tend to do that when you get backed into a corner, where you are battling common since with what you are told is correct

not that either way is wrong, just trying to understand yours

Found this and thought it may be of interest, I imagine the tests were carried out about the time GI came on the scene...

OMS Test

Intersting way of testing drag, sounds like fun!!

You mean someone found a flaw in a HALCYON!!!!??
NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!

Lucky for me.... I only dive very cold water-hooded :)

I have not noticed the strap chafing problem as of yet (greeeeat now I will be looking for it), and have the newer 27lb. wing.

I use surgical tubing looped on my harness to secure my inflator.
Works very well. And I think it is less likely to eventually slice into the hose as it is larger in diameter and stretchier (is that a word?).

Also ... on the tank straps... the newer ones I think will resolve your issue. See if you can get Halcyon to take your old style straps in and replace with the newer style straps? They just might... if you have not already bent them back into shape. Mention that your tanks almost slipped off while doing that deep rescue dive, and you were almost fish food?

i have an explanation, bad design however this can be fixed by raping bungies around those lose wings
"Raping bungies"? Is that an avian sexcrime or satanic ritual?

I wasn't backed into a corner Doug... just tired... but after a few hours sleep... well I'm still tired... but I am up...

OK.... what were we arguing about.... oh, yeah....
You were raping bungies... and I was shifting air....

OK... here's the deal.... you don't use a scooter right? You're missing that part of the equation...

I haven't had my medicinal Latte yet this morning so I will just point you to this fellow's little didactic:
http://www.wkpp.org/articles/Gear/newgeorge.html

But hey.... if you need to hang them off of your right side too then go for it. I don't dive with stages or travel gas for the dives I do. Shoot for most folk here it just isn't an issue; this isn't the tech forum...

But since it came up I thought I would explain to you why being able to *adjust* the amount of gas in each side of the Exporer wing is not a problem but actually a solution and part of the design.

Hey... hey... Doug... are you awake?

No need, as long as you have that hood on. :)

Yeah, they have their flaws, too.

But I've found only minor ones so far...

haven't found anything better yet, though.
