JBRES1:
What was the water temp at the Quary this past weekend.
The web site claims the water is in the 50's, is that true ?
Thanks, Jim breslin
Temps ran between 38F and 41F on the shallow side on Saturday. No thermocline right now and the fish are still torpid so you can get one up on the bluegills to start the season right.

Do you guys know a GOOD place to get my tanks O2 cleaned????I can drive up to 40 miles from Chicago.....!!

I O2 clean tanks. I've used Scuba Emporium in past and Scuba Systems. Both are over priced for O2 cleaning tanks.

I've worked at both shops oxygen cleaning and servicing cylinders and valves and I'm intimately familiar with the protocols and the effort required to do the job right. Both shops were/are meticulous in the work that they perform and have invested heavily in the equipment, materials, parts, supplies and training required for the work - work that is hard, dirty and time consuming. Are they overpriced? I don't think so but, unless price is your only criterion, that's a subjective evaluation. The fact that so few shops are doing the work indicates that it's not a particularly profitable line of work and I know that both shops offer it because they believe it is an essential service - not because they make a bunch of money from it. As one of the techs who has been doing the work, I can tell you I'm not getting rich from it, either. :D

I don't know anything about the quality of the work that you do but I'm reminded of an old business saying: don't get upset when a competitor charges less than you - he usually knows exactly what he's worth.

Just out of curiosity, how much is an outrageous charge for O2 clean? or what is an average price in Chicago area?

Does it include a valve, too?

I'm just stating my experiences as a dissatisfied customer when I had my tanks O2 cleaned. I felt that for the quality of work performed on my cylinders wasn't worth what I paid for them. That made me seek out the training to do it myself as I trust my own work and attention to detail more. If the tanks are really dirty, then yes more work is required to get them up to snuff and a higher price should be paid. In my case, my tanks were very clean. Knowing what I know now, I don't think it was worth what I paid for it.

As Steve said, price shouldn't be the only consideration when considering where to get tanks O2 cleaned. You should ask about the policies and procedures for O2 cleaning. You should pay for higher quality. But keep in mind, this is the internet and everybody has their own opinion. One should do their homework.

I should also add that the last time I had my tanks O2 cleaned by a dive store about a 1.5 years ago. Prices and policies may have changed since then.
