Seems like the dive outfit would be interested though...

Maybe but lots of resorts conduct dives that are well beyond the limits outlined in training standards (like blue hole or devils throat). It's pretty much a "buyer beware" deal.

Again, you're all just speculating facts. No one here really knows what went down that day. I will say this. Whatever we did that day was between us. How deep we went is really none of your concern. I have dove with ALOT of folks from this board and nobody has ever felt that I "lead" them into a deeper water or a dangerrous situation. And BTW, I totally discouraged them (my fellow divers that day of the hammerhead) from doing the dive below 150ft. I was not the one jumping around waving my hands say" Oh, Oh, let's go there!" It just wasn't the case. And some of you continue to harp on me. So do what you have to do to sleep good at night. I know I just woke up from 9 hours of great sleep, so none if your rants are bothering me. Also, for the record, I did sign up yesterday for the IANTD Deep Diver course. I'll keep everyone informed how's it going.

Your statement is not truthful. You admit to having taken single tank divers to 165 - 170, while you went to 200. That's poor escorting, poor supervision, and unsafe.

Allowing single tank divers under your supervision to go to 150 feet is also unsafe. The fact that you had to share air demonstrates this.

Get a trimix course under your belt. Then contemplate the error of your ways.

Regardless of how long you slept, the rants should bring to your attention that you are personally endangering people, and will be personally responsible for their injuries or deaths, based upon your violation of standards, lack of discipline, poor judgment and abysmal supervisory skills. Even if you aren't acting as an instructor, you claim to have been running the dive. The consequences are you responsibility.

I'm going back to play with my CCR. A couple of hours on a shallow wreck (100 -120 fsw) should take my mind off this utter BS.

Alot of critics here don't have all the facts.

There's only two facts we need to know:

1) Are you (and the other divers) trained to make dives to this depth?

2) If yes, did you make the dive following the procedures you learnt in that training?

By the way, please don't answer 1 with "well, I've made lots of deco dives in the past"; a straight "no" will suffice.

Good point. Seems like they pop up now and then on SB.

FWIW ...seems Playa has got the rec/trip thing nailed tight and if he has cert-ed more than 1000+ divers do you really think PADI is going to kill the golden goose ....please!

You all leave out one key point ..the three other divers were obviously certified most likely through PADI and thus should know their limits. They choose to follow him to 170+ fsw ...so what is PADI going to do?

Playa your web site and myspace are tight ....your pass from Posidon my run out on the next deep dive, so just take some technical training, ...before you kill someone!

It seems that TDS has now pulled the thread....
Last night it was there.

TDS is a technical diving board and there is nothing remotely techincal about his posts.

I'm not surprised they got pulled (although a bit disappointed because some of the responses were very entertaining!)

Isn't "follow the leader" what most divers are taught?

Dunno, but if you pick out any page at random from the PADI Rescue or Divemaster manual you can probably find some rule or guideline this guy is breaking. At the very least I would imagine they'd want to revoke his insurance if he has the PADI version. I sure wouldn't want to be financially liable for this guy.

I guess I missed that day. Every instructor I've ever had discussed the "trust me dive" and reasons not to do them. If you don't have a dive plan, if the plan isn't clear, if you don't understand it, or if there is some part of it that is questionable, you don't do the dive.
