I think the idea that a dive-professional is someone who can actually support a decent standard of living on their teaching income is a good idea (I know I wouldnŽ´t want myself as an instructor after an 8+hr work-day).

The idea of shortchanging my students was what ultimately motivated me to give up flight instruction. When a person is teaching skills and attitudes that affect lives and property, their own and others', they owe nothing short of their best to the student. At the same time the instructor is worth at least a living wage.

For the reasons cited before by others it is unlikely that a business model that will allow a dive instructor to make a living at entry level teaching will survive, if it ever gets off the ground. Some may wistfully desire it. But, achieving business success is a whole other thing.
