Just to briefly update:
Even though what was posted above is what is taught in Tech 1 and is in the SOP manual; I also questioned how it scaled up for the bigger dives. I found a technical bulletin on the GUE website for Tech 2 dives - Technical Bulletin 090707-001 Change to Lost Gas Strategy. It says for the lost 50%, keep stop times and alternate for stops 70-50ft, for stop times 40-30ft multiple stop time by 1.5 and split between divers.

It seems a little overly complicated, but it does allow the flexibility to preserve more gas shallower and not spend excessive time at the deeper stops if that is a concern. I tend to think the 1.5x divide by 2 on all stops is preferred for its simplicity and straight forwardness, but to each his own.
