I'm looking to take fundies in High Springs. How should I choose an instructor and what is the typically cost of instruction per day for fundies?

There are a bunch of active instructors down there:
@kierentec and @mer here on the forum, Orie Braun, Stretch Altenhien, Lauren Wilson, and Doug Murdy and I'm sure a bunch of people I'm forgetting. They're all great people and you'll enjoy the class with any of them I'm sure.

As for choosing between them I think for me it'd predominately be driven by who's schedule works out the best for you and spending a quick phone call to see who you seem to get along with.

I took Fundies with Doug Mudry and Cave 1 with Meredith (mer). Mer also has this website: Wet Rocks Diving ...more Diving! Home of GUE Instructor, Meredith Tanguay and Team. Although GUE instructors may schedule classes in response to requests from prospective students, I suggest first looking at the classes that instructors have already scheduled/proposed: GUE class schedule | GUE. From a search there, it looks like Stretch is teaching a lot of Fundies. You can also search by instructor, such as for all instructors teaching Fundies in the US and then see who lists Florida: GUE Instructors | GUE. You could then contact a couple of them and see if you like what you hear.

Get in touch with a couple and see who you get on best with - instructor personality is a big thing for me. You might also find a difference in class structure/number of days, or class location. Cost wise, you'll find some variation, but there is typically a "going rate." At the end of the day, they'll all be very strong instructors teaching you to the same unified set of standards and procedures.

Hi @MoorishK,

I’d be happy to answer any specific questions you have about training via email or a phone call if you’d like. I have some details, including pricing on my website www.kierentechnical.com. Take a look and give me a shout, I’m happy to be a resource for you any way I can.

Generally one of the nice things I think about GUE is it is not really a gamble in choosing an instructor. They are all excellent. So I think pick on where you want to do training and personality fit. I think you can expect on average around $1000-$1500 for fundies as a range to budget for the class.

I can personally vouch for the following instructors (as I had GUE classes with them):

Mer Tanguay
Danny Riordan
Lauren Wilson
Emöke Wagner
