I've just seen the pictures of the little city on an island in the middle of the bay. It looks like something out of Pirate of the Carribbean. I want to go. I'm sure this was a helpful post :)

here are my pics from Guanaja and our stay at coral bay. Diving Guanaja Honduras, August 2007 it is far from easy to get to, and way off the beaten path but worth your time. If you are considering Coral Bay send me a PM and i will give you more info. I did get to see the other resorts on the island and they are a mess at best.

Might find this place interesting. I'm considering it.

VILLA at DUNBAR ROCK: Guanaja, Bay Islands, Honduras.

this place did look brilliant! their boat is quite a riot... seems the just kept building it taller and taller, sort of like the hotel. It really did look like an amazing place to stay! nix my comment about the others being a mess :)

Cody - Would you be willing to share additional information about Coral Bay and the places that were a "mess" with all of us?

cody, your pictures are pretty nice. I would like info about coral bay. I was thinking of staying at Bo's Island House. Simple is fine, but I like a hot shower.
By "a mess" do you mean in general or by a storm? Have you been to Utila also?? Is the diving at Guanaja the same?? I find the off the beaten path of Gunaja appealing.
Thanks,
Greta

Coral bay is nice. By a mess i mean that the management when we were there was having problems. There was an investor in canada, one it florida and another couple from honduras who ran the place. There were some problems it seemed with getting money from the investors to the couple that rant he show in honduras. that being said I can refer you to the couple in honduras and you can book your trip directly through them and it will work out nicely. The 2 gents that ran the diving were Peter and Deovani and really were quite nice and wonderfully accommodating.

If you want to fly there, (duh) you need to book tickets into either La Cieba or San Pedro Sula, from there you can fly Islena Airlines to Guanaja directly. DO NOT go to roatan and use the charter. the charter is nice but really overpriced. We were led to believe this was the only way by the guy from canada and ended up spending money while he got a kickback.

As far as the diving I think it is far superior to any of the other diving in the bay islands. There are lots of amazing caverns and lava shoots to explore and the Jado trader was the dive of my life. I think we did it 3 times while we were there.

The people are the happiest and friendliest bunch in the world. The locals live in poverty and love every single second of it. Guanaja is a tropical paradise and worth going to if you don't mind a 'off the beaten path.'

and if you really think you want a hot shower (you don't need it really) all you need to do is make sure the little heater is plugged in and just adjust the water pressure a bit lower so it has a chance to warm up. but really, it is warm enough you don't need or want a hot shower.

Please PM me and I will do my best to put you in contact with the right people and you will have a great time!
