I just don't log dives
I have been an intermittent diver for, I hate to think, over 40 years. The most consistent period being two years spent on Guam courtesy of the USN, 1990-'92. Diving there was a fantasy, as easy as going to the beach, though my wife and I enjoyed boat dives as well. We also had a friend with a Zodiac inflatable with a 40 hp. motor. It wasn't uncommon to dive more than once a day several days a week. We dove so much we were occasionally tired of it. Hard to believe with 130 ft. vis. and 86 degree water temp. I also dove in Thailand, the Philippines, and the Gulf of Oman or North Arabian Sea (I'm not sure which). Since then there have been a few trips to Fla. but we've been kept busy raising 3 children who all got their OW cert. this summer.
My wife and I still have our equipment from 1990, me US diver Conshelf SE2, Scubapro finseal, and air2, she mk10, G250, finseal, and air2. The thought of outfitting all my chidren with new equipment was giving me hives. I'm not sure how I stumbled upon your site, but it has given me the motivation, inspiration, information and confidence to obtain, restore and maintain SC mk10, G250, air2 rigs for them. I scoured eBay and Craigslist and got them outfitted at a fraction (even counting the maintenance kits, o-rings, and tools). The choice to have everyone using the same setup seemed obvious from a maintenance perspective. I didn't need to learn how to teardown and rebuild every regulator on the market, and I can order parts and o-rings in bulk. I even got myself a mk10,G250. Actually I had answered an ad on Craigslist for a used scubapro BCD with air2,for one of my daughters. They were asking $100 and would "throw in an old regulator and a computer that "they didn't make batteries for anymore". I thought $100 was a good price for a (newer than mine) scubapro BCD and air2. When I saw what the "old regulator" was that they were "throwing in" I felt bad that I only had an extra $20 in my wallet. For $120 I got the BCD, air2, mk10, G250, and the "old computer" which turned out to be a datamax sport that is fully functional with a new 3.6 V 1/2AA. I don't know if they were told by the local dive shop that this stuff was no good or they just wanted new stuff. I felt bad for them but it felt like Christmas to me.
Thank you for your wealth of information. Now if I could just find a lifetime supply of seats for S-wing poppets...
