Martha:
Christi has Tortugas listed on her website as a "special dive", so looks like they still go to the mainland. Since you've already been there, can you tell me if it would be nice for snorkeling? I was considering seeing if we could arrange a dive/snorkel trip there. We're diving with Blue XT~Sea (May 30-June 6), so we may be diving with you for a few days. Woo hoo, can't wait!!!

Hey Martha
Yes, Christi said we ARE diving with you & we would be up to a trip over there if possible. However I distinctly remember they stopped going over there- wonder when it changed ?
I would imagine snorkeling would be pretty poor - I dont remember how deep we were.
We are much in need of a vacation !!!! Cant wait !!
BTW, we'll be getting married June 08 & Fiji for our honeymoon ;) See you there !!! We'll have to get together for dinner this trip.

...Funny thing was we had dolphins hanging out around our bow the day before...actually got some pics (which I will post later). The DM said that it was a bad sign that the Nortes were coming. It was sunny and beautiful, so I dismissed it....guess the dolphins were right!

I've heard that the dolphins come in to the channel when it is going to storm. too bad about the boat ride the next day, but the dolphins on the bow are always cool!!!

Happened to us too last year... D'oh! I guess the locals know best.

Have one of those Negra Leons for me
Gordon... thought of you yesterday, I'm here in the Turks & Caicos and had by first Turk's Head Amber... It'll definitely give the Leon Negra a run for it's money. The Lager tastes similiar to Sol but the Amber is something else!

And before anyone says anything... yes I know it's weird being somewhere else and still checking the Coz forum

Yea, that thunderstorm Sat evening was really something. You could see it coming in from PDC for about 30 min prior to it hitting. The rain gauge said 1.5 inches in 30minutes. It was howling. I was out and about so ducked into Chedrui to ride it out (at least I wasn't going to starve to death :D )

The rain on that metal roof was REALLY loud. The roof was leaking in a few places and the power went off for a while before their generators kicked in.

The power went off in the place I was staying later that evening and the water on the streets was pretty challenging. It was about knee deep in many of the back streets.

That'll be great diving with you! I'd definitely like to do a trip to Tortugas, if possible. Maybe with enough people, Christi will give the thumbs up. I guess we'll take the kids snorkeling elsewhere. We'd be up for dinner, too. See you soon!

Well it will be interesting to hear what Gordon has to say about Saturday night. We were on the water in a 'fast boat' when the storm hit. Lightning and thunder all around. I heard there was hail at PDC. We barely got back to the harbor in one piece. The Capt was quite nervous and if the outboard had failed, we would have swamped...no doubt about it.

Funny thing was we had dolphins hanging out around our bow the day before...actually got some pics (which I will post later). The DM said that it was a bad sign that the Nortes were coming. It was sunny and beautiful, so I dismissed it....guess the dolphins were right!

It was something, that's for sure. We were sitting around the Caribe Blu patio watching it come in for quite a while; it looked for a while that it maybe would miss us, but then it expanded rapidly and engulfed us. The wind was blowing 50 mph or more, and the rain was nearly horizontal. The lightning was nearly constant, and there were 4 foot waves breaking onto the stone area out by the palapas. A couple of wetsuits blew off the upper balcony and were never seen again.

We had thought about going up to the ferry pier to see the fishing tournament weigh-in, but decided against it. Good decision; the storm caught a lot of folks out there.

It's not uncommon for storms to pop up in the afternoons this time of year, but this one was the strongest I have encountered.

We got back yesterday and experienced the storm last Saturday - it was about 2 hours after we arrived in Coz!

We were downton across from the pier and watched the fishing tourney weigh in. Stopped for a beer and Margertia while the clouds built. On our way to dinner (Prima), the clouds let loose. We were all trapped in various storefronts around the square. One of the store's canopies let loose and almost knocked a sign down on my wife! Scary!

After it cleared, we tried to dry out in various bars as they squeegeed the floors. Prima got everything back in shape for a nice dinner for us!

Funny thing, is that about 20 minutes before the plane landed, I looked out the window and saw a huge cloud:

I'm thinking that was the top of the storm that hit.

Also - the dolphin thing (them heading away from a storm...)... we finished our dives on Sunday and were heading north by the pier by el Cid when a pod of dolphins were spotted. We slowed the boat, I grabbed my mask and attempted to dive in behind them. My "dive" was more of a belly flop, and they scattered. Two of them were towards the bottom, so I got a nice view of them swimming under us. (note to self: after breathing through a reg for 2 hours, you must remind yourself that diving in the water with only a mask is fine, but do NOT try to breathe without first lifting your fat head out of the water! Next time I'll know!)

(I'll have to post a trip report later - suffice it to say for now, that it was a terrific trip and meeting ggun and driftin'by on the trip was GREAT. We're hooked on Coz.)

Gordon, Had a wonderful time with you guy's At Caribe Blu. Made reservations for 05/03/08.

We flew out of Cancun on Saturday and saw (and felt) that. It was pretty bumpy there for a few minutes.
