DandyDon:Blame me - it's all my fault! ... For now, I'd like our critics here to try an exercise, if you would:
(1) Why don't you greet each and every new Inro, every day, and see how soon your greetings get to be the same. There are about 15 a day, so you may want to work on your creativity.
(2) Then take 5 days off, come back, and catch up - greeting 75 new Intros.
(3) Take your laptop with you over a holiday weekend so you can continue greeting from the hotel.
(4) Then tell me how bad we are - okay?Hey Don and Greeters. You all are good folks, and many many people here appreciate your time and positive energy. If your greetings are a bit canned at time, so what! Often I skip replying or posting because I'm in a time bind or because my head or heart is someplace else at the time. You guys don't skip the posts. You are always there, and always positive.
I once heard Larry King interview someone about the different responses that the public makes in different parts of the country. King pointed out that some people will always find something to complain about - some folks would boo a cure for cancer, and find something wrong with the folks who devote their energy to it.
SB doesn't cure chronic illness, but its a good place for folks who want honest dialog, and you guys make a solid and consistent contribution. Thank you for that.
DandyDon:We want to make sure that those who bother to post an Intro feel welcomed. I guess anyone we don't please can find something else to read. :mooner:
medic13:well I must admit I don't like the idea , lets me give you few reasons and I am sure there are others.

First let me say allot of us do reply to the newbies as we have time .
Does this make it any more or less important as a official greeter, NO its make us more important because we reply to them to promote and introdiouce them to scuba boardwith out a name because we wanted too !!!
I feel if all the thousand members on this board cannot reply to a new post them maybe we have another Promblem, I have actually never seen a newbie post never get answered too , I may be wrong I just havent seen one !!!
I dont say they shouldnt be greeted, I greet some when I see them.
I didnt start this to start a fight , I posted my point of view and thats all , I just think the name greeter looks tacky !!!
I am not saying some of you dont do a good job but why cant you greet them like rest of us do with out that name !!!!!!!!! again just my 2 cents !!!!!!!!!
Yes, sir - you do, and that's great. The Team members notonly want to ensure that everyone receives some nice greetings, we also encourage others to join in - hence the link in my Sig.medic13:First let me say allot of us do reply to the newbies as we have time .
Okay, you think you're important, fine; we don't think we're important, but we do greet for the same reasons - because we wanted to. The Team operatred for months without a special discussion forum, much less badges, to ensure that everyone got a few. With 15 new Intros a day, I have certainly seen some go to page 2 with no welcomes before we found them back there.Does this make it any more or less important as a official greeter, NO its make us more important because we reply to them to promote and introdiouce them to scuba boardwith out a name because we wanted too !!!
You posted on 8 Intro theads in the last month, so I can see that you'd not have noticed, but it used to happen. It's been a long time, though. We're not going to say that we have a problem when some don't welcome at all, though; we're going to ensure that all are welcomed some. WE have a few other duties that we discuss in our private forum, like trying to give quality answers or directions to appropriate forums, filling in Profile & Dive Info, and setting a friendly example that we hope carries over into the rest of the forums.I feel if all the thousand members on this board cannot reply to a new post them maybe we have another Promblem, I have actually never seen a newbie post never get answered too , I may be wrong I just havent seen one !!!
I said above that we don't need badges, but that decision was made at a higher echelon, and NetDoc said they stay. I think it had something to do with making sure the new member knew he could ask us questions about the boarfd. We humbly appreciate them, but that's not why we've were organized months before we were recognized.I dont say they shouldnt be greeted, I greet some when I see them.
