What is the local censues on Bill Jackson's? Tara and I stopped by the shop on the way back, and thought they had some decent stuff.

Overall I like BJs. The Friday before DEMA wasn't exactly a shining customer service moment for them, but aside from that, they have always treated me well and seem to be fairly priced.

They are my LDS due to their knowledge in the tech/cave field (Mike, Jim), in the equipment service area (Ray) and the overall dive section (Brennan, Rocky, Billy)

GCD - saw you were on and was wondering if you are still sane with not diving for months I'd be a raving lunatic. You know - I have a hood I could lend ya  We can even pour hot water down your back after the dive. Oooooh they did that on Captain Fran's boat in Isle of Shoals - one of the most wonderful feeling ever after being in 48f water (remember that Scott)!

Anywhoozle, say hi to Kath and MK. Tell them they are missed :hugs:

I hate this cold water stuff, I was thinking about taking the boat out tuesday to run it, maybe I could drop you somewhere? :D

Bill Jackson's is behind my house (and across a lake...). Mike Love is the dive shop manager. If you don't see what you want, ask... They are always willing to look into a vendor catalog, find the product, price and special order it for you.

I use Jackson's for most of my normal dive stuff. Between Mike, Frank and Billy, I get what I want fast and easy. If I need a rush on tank fills, no problem... They get my tanks into the drink and start the flow. My fill card has been out for a while, and they continue to honor the fill card price when I pay in cash. They have called me a few times to see if I can take divers out to Venice Beach for shark tooth dives. Most of the time I can accomodate their requests.

I use Tackle Shack when I need something on more of a Tech level. Mike (different Mike) is the shop manager there too. Jimmy, the owner is usually around to make sure you get help on everything you need there. TShack carries more Tech stuff in stock than Jackson's and when they know you, they often give you a discount on something, or "throw in" something as a thank you for being a regular customer.

Warning: Be ready for 'Jersey service from Tackle Shack. That is to say, Mike knows his chit and has a slight accent (as well as colorful language). I took my son there one day to get a dive log. I walked through the door and we were greeted with "When the hell did they let you out of jail". My son walked out of the shop with a ScubaPro Dive Log discounted to "Hey, get the hell out of here"...

On another occasion, I was there looking at steel 80's for diving Venice. When I told Mike I was interested in steel 80's he said, "Not on my **%$ing shift! I'll sell you the 100's for the same price as the 80's and you'll thank me later"

If you can handle that type of service, The Shack can be a great place to shop.

GCD,

We're in the same "boat" there! The water is too dang cold for diving (since we live here and all). Which reminds me... I was out in the bay fishing Saturday morning and stopped off at the Gandy for a few mins... I notice a dive flag bobbing around under the old Gandy section on the Tampa side (now closed). What on earth would anyone be diving for in that area? Me and the son decided it was an engineer inspecting pilings, but who knows...

AstroDad:
They could have been looking for crabs or just junk lost by people from the bridge. I have dove some boat docks and piers and found some interesting items.

Stolen from another thread. Check this octopus out that went after ScubaAnn's hogfish she had just speared (look for the tail fin):
