hi, im going to g.c may 7th- 16th. i had a couple questions about the place im staying in. for four days ill be in the Aqua Bay Club and the rest ill be in casa caribe. i cant seem to find good posts on these places. also, i found an 8 day diving package from bob sotos for 528. is that a good price? ( 2 tank morning, unlimited shore). besides the turtle farm what else is there to do on land there?

zaf88,

Been to the Cayman's a few times, can't comment on where your staying except that I've heard people seem to like Aqua Bay Club. Have walked by the Casa Caribe but can't remember it off-hand.

Bob Soto is OK, not great. Depends on your experience level as well. I think the best diving is on the East End but it tends to get a little rougher at times as well. Ocean Frontiers was my favorite followed by DiveTech. Ocean Frontiers will pick you up and drop you off for morning dives even though you are on Seven Mile Beach, about a 45 minute ride. They will probably cost more but I think are a better operation. Bob Soto tends to be alot more divers and more restrictive, but then again when you have divers of varying skill level I'm sure it isn't easy. Alot just depends on who the divemasters are on the boat and that can be the luck of the draw.

Things to do... Turtle Farm (DiveTech is next door)... Lonestar Bar & Grill (favorite)... parasail... you can walk to town although a few miles but still walkable... fairly quiet island but depends what you like. Drew on this board lives there and if you search his posts you can get more input on dive operators and goings on...

we have stayed at aqua bay club and found it to be ideal.
it is located at the northen part of 7 mi beach which where there are very very few people using the beach. it is close to cemetary reef which my family loved to snorkle.
divetech would pick me every morning to dive on the noth wall. we loved being away from all the hub-bub nearer to town and the cruise ships. the facility has a nice pool and hot tub. the sunsets are to die for. you will enjoy staying at aqua bay.

ScubaTexas:
Does anyone know if you can do Cemetary Reef as a shore dive?

yes, and a nice one it is. you need to go to Cemetary
Beach (go figure) and head out about... hmm.... 100 yards?

anyway, you'll see the reef line (dark patch of water).

initially, the vis sucks, but as you swim out to the reef
it should clear out.

oh... ask for directions, but heading North along the beach road, you will pass a fire station on the right, then
you'll see the cemetery on your left. STOP. the path to the
beach follows the north wall of the cemetery, and you
can easily miss it.

Diving in the Cayman is all awesome. We stayed at Aqua Bay and you will love the beach and the facilities. When it comes to diving, we always dive with Divetech. Their dive shop and boats are about 5 minutes from your condo. They have unlimited shore diving with a boat package. Their boats and staff are the greatest.

do i need to rent a car ?
Yes, if you want to shore dive and use your own gear, or also if you want to get out to explore the eastern districts.

No, if you will only boat dive (operator will probably pick you up) or will rent gear where you shore dive.

yup...

i would recommend a car. driving around the island (literally) at night is one of my
wife's and mine favorite things to do. you never know what you will see.
