Don't waste your time going to Sting Ray City. It is awful. I went just after they started, eons ago and just went back in May. The water is green, you sit in a circle. If there is surge, you're getting pushed into other divers. I was disappointed in the coral there, too.

I disagree with this. I've been several times (dive and sandbar) and the water was never green. Also, no coral to bump into. Those things are factually inaccurate. Sure, it could be viewed as a tourist trap, but it's actually a pretty unique place that is worth going to at least once. I think most people feel a little trepidation when they first get there because of the sheer size and number of rays. But, once you begin interacting with them, your fears are allayed and you start viewing them a little differently. Worth the trip if you ask me.

Just weighing in because of the mention of Sting Ray City. Cool place if you've never seen them but they also have these encounters elsewhere, such as in Cozumel. Can't help with dive shops as I have only gone with shops farther away from cruise terminal.

But if you decide not to dive, I recommend a jet ski tour (find the one that takes you to Sting Ray City.) We departed from a mangrove area just behind a housing addition. Did some snorkeling stops, SRC, I think starfish beach, a stop for a drink, and some great jet skiing in between. Best top side activity I have done on Grand Cayman.

I dove with Deep Blue Divers - Grand Cayman's Premier Scuba Diving and PADI Certification for a week recently.

I would not do stingray city with a cruise (sandbar)... just too crowded. I passed by there when a couple cruise ships were docked and could not believe how many people were there. I didn't do the dive as there was lots of rain and the mangrove made the water murky/green. We went back to the sandbar when no cruise ships were in town and it was much nicer

Hi all,

Spoke with Tom from Off the Wall Divers and they probably will not be able to accommodate us due to our ship's arrival time. I can say, he has awesome customer service and said that they could take us for a guide shore dive on a wall or mini-wall (depending on how far we want to swim out). I also contacted Epic Divers and they also have excellent customer service. Freddy from Epic said they can accommodate us for a two-tank boat dive - yea! They have good reviews on Trip Advisor. I would like to know if anyone out here on this board have used them and how was your experience?

Lastly, are there any specific sites we should try and request? We love wall diving so we are looking forward to our day of diving there.

Thanks,
cruzbound

I have used both several times. They both provide reliable, friendly, professional service.

I always recommend Divetech on Grand Cayman. I did some rebreather dives with them at Cobalt Coast Resort this past October and they are excellent.

The hour roundtrip from the port cuts into cruise diving time too much. Plus their morning boat(s) will likely be gone by the time the OP can get up there.

Epic is a very good operation. The dive sites really are dependent on weather, wind current. Let them make the recommendation based on local conditions.
North generally better than West, if weather allows.

Cayman is renowned for it's wall diving. Dive the wall.

I know this will be criticized but:
Stingray City and Kittewake are a sideline.

Agree. Was there 2 weeks ago, spent the week with Divetech & Cobalt Coast. Excellent dive op. Oh, and yes the water at Stingray city was GREEN.

Agree with you. Think Kittiwake will be a pretty good dive once it's been there for several more years.

I would have also recommended DiveTech but knew they were to far away. I would think anyone that's close by should be able to give you a nice experience. Lots of nice sites along 7 mile beach.
