Google showing negative trend in scuba?

I like that the news item flags don't seem to correspond to either the peaks or valleys of the graph.

Wonder how the diving is in South Africa...

Hmmm... I wonder if there is a similar trend for on-line porn and other frequently searched topics (not by me of course)? Need to look at it in comparison with other sports activities as well.

It looks like the searches have declined to about 1/3rd their size since 2004.

with the exception of Obama and p0rn everything indicates a downward trend. Even skiing, yes, it is seasonal but overall, each crest was lower then the one from the previous year - a general downturn in the market as you would call it if you were doing a technical analysis of the charts.

One observation (as the poster probably intended) is that search rates for both diabetes and digital cameras are also down. Since the rates of both of these are up in the general population over the last few years, it would suggest that maybe search rates aren't a good way to measure popularity, for some reason.

not sure it correlates with economy...

i did a search on thrift searches... cupons, etc...

almost every search declined.

i searched DIY searches in auto repair, home repair, etc... in a down economy these searches should increase as people try and save money... all declined...

then i searched bing, yahoo, etc... ( all alternate search engines) and their graphs ALL rose......

i think that the trend is more people using other search engines as google has gotten progressively worse over the last few years.

People know where to go hence they are not searching

Diving is in declince fewer new folks are seeking it, we need some good programs like Cousteau and SeaHunt to kindle some fires. Too many think we're nut jobs leaving a perfectly good atomphere to blow bubbles.

Economy, less free time and disposable income for many.

The boomerang generation is pulling empty nesters home.

Travel hassles, security, bagage fees. Resorts continue to be a bargain for your vacation $$$
