After having to put it off a couple of years, I am in the preliminary steps of planning a dive/see daughter trip to Jacksonville sometime in mid to late summer.

When is a good time or the best time to drive down from Illinois and hit dive sites along the gulf on the way to Jacksonville and then do some spring and hopefully ocean boat dives?

Asking now so I can put in for the vacation at work.

Thanks,

Jeff

Thermo-cline usually hits around the 2nd or 3rd week of July. Not so much the cold to worry about but the organic growth kills vis.Inshore will be in the 20' range if it doesn't come in that far with days to 40'.Offshore can be 100' vis one week and 5' the next. The last Wednsday and Thursday of July are Mini-Sport lobster season.Bugs get big here always a crowd-pleaser.

Ever been to Florida that time of year? We were in Panama City a couple of years ago during the last week of August (camping in a tent no less) and it was seriously hot and humid! Diving the springs was extremely refreshing but that year the gulf temperature was unusually high according to the dive master. Above the thermocline I (queen of cold) was actually uncomfortably warm in a 3mm.
