My wife and I are planning to move to Bali for a year to use as a base for diving Indo generally.

But while we are home...wherever that home is...it would be great to be able to dive on a regular basis. Is there any good shore diving in Bali? (That has good houses or villas to rent)?

We need full Western comfort. Also decent airport access.

Please do not respond by suggesting that I contact your real estate agent, etc.

Thanks,

Bill

+1 for Tulamben. Great shore diving, 3.5-4 hrs to the airport, and villas in the area to rent.

Amed would be better actually, more choices of restaurants, shops, and villas/houses. Its a short drive from Tulamben and the best macro sites are actually between Amed and Tulamben in the Seraya area, not in Tulamben itself.
That would be my suggestion..

Oh, and please contact my real estate agent :)

Done. Thanks.

What exactly do you mean by "Amed", Mike? How far east makes sense? There are villas all the way to the end of the eastern peninsula.

Yes, well, I found Amed on the map. What I was trying to ask is: how far east of the town of Amed makes sense for access to facilities / restaurants as well as diving?

- Bill

Amed is very spread out: from the NW side near Cafe Garam/Hotel Uyah to Jemeluk Bay would be the "busy" area with more restaurants and shops. Once you go up the hill from Jemeluk you get into where there are a lot more villas and more private homes etc all the way to the Japanese Wreck and beyond. I would say being not too far from Jemeluk would be good. From Japanese Wreck to Jemeluk is probably 15 mins or so by car so either way its nothing overly inconvenient

Hey what about Candi Dasa? It is nicely located, no diving outside your front door but 20 - 30 mins to Padang Bai, and about the same (?) to Amed. There are definitely some nice villas there!

Close to the airport for periodic inter-island trips. Is there anything to do in Candidasa?

We are finding some nice villas in Amed -- thanks for the suggestion! Will we be able to dive the year round in Amed? What is the wet season like there? Thanks,Bill
