goofystan:I would not go deep without having a more experienced diver with me...
So you do a lot of "trust me " dives then

Ian, isn't every training dive a trust me dive?ianr33:So you do a lot of "trust me " dives then

No, if you're not prepared for the dive, you shouldn't be doing it, under instruction or not.reefraff:Ian, isn't every training dive a trust me dive?
goofystan:Most of my dives have been deep dives with a few otherwise. I like deep dives and everything not deep has been less appealing. Is this common? I guess I like the thrill/challenge of going deep. Who knows but I need to work it out because I prejudge a dive by the depth. Crazy huh? Do others feel this way also?

Don Burke:Actually, I do not believe you have done enough diving to establish a trend of any sort.
If depth is the only factor you judge dives on, you are headed in the general direction of big problems.
It is far more likely the dives you liked best just happened to be deeper than the others.
Forgive me for splitting hairs here, but if you're truly "prepared" for a dive, what purpose does the instructor serve? Unless you're taking the class only to collect the card, it seems the fact that you're diving with an instructor is an inherent admission that you are still learning and have not mastered the skills. That said, I don't disagree that tagging along behind someone more experienced is a poor substitute for developing the skills necessary for a dive - be that in 10 feet of water or 100.OneBrightGator:No, if you're not prepared for the dive, you shouldn't be doing it, under instruction or not.
OneBrightGator:Well, often getting the card is just about like buying concert ticket, you wanna see the show, you gotta pay the dough.
Ideally you should learn through the class and by the time you're doing the dives you should feel confident that you could make the dives without the instructor, but a little reassurance never hurts. Basically, you shouldn't be doing a dive that you couldn't get yourself outta the water safely without a buddy and after the... stuff... hits the fan.
