Hmm... I used to have a funky Hulk Hogan 70's throwback moustache (with soul patch). Pack it full of Chapstick and you should be just fine. Be careful, use a neutral colored one. The red ones will leave a mark and people will look at you funny.

I find that a mask with a wider skirt seems to do the trick. Shaving right under my nose helps too. I've tried a bunch of masks...found the Ocean Master to work the best...for me at least.

I concur on the chapstick and I've used mustache wax also. I rarely have problems (2 times in 40 dives) but based on the other comments I believe it might be strap positioning on those occassions.

I have a full beard and no problems with either of my masks. They fit with or without facial hair.

Maybe it's because I don't smile :jaws:

There's some answers in here:

and I know there are a few other threads about different techniques as well.

I personally trim under my nose, and I've found that Tusa masks seal really well on my face even with the facial hair. All in all, you get pretty used to clearing the mask multiple times a dive. I get surprised when I notice I've not had to clear it all dive.

I keep a stick of sunscreen (the big chapstick kind) in my mask case. that keeps the mask sealed rather nicely, and when in the sun, it keeps the nose from frying!

Vaseline sucks

I agree with most of the above advice, but we really need to clear up the semantic problem at hand.

A "goatee" is a beard below the mouth that does not extend outwards across the face. I have a goatee, and would have to be doing something pretty damned strange for it to ever touch the skirt of my mask.

A "moustache" on the other hand, can indeed cause issues. Do what works for you, but a good starting point is spending the time (and money I guess) to find the right mask for your face. A decent high quality silicone skirt is a must.

.....and a 'goatie' is the furry little cloven hooved critters Sue posted a picture of.....

My BIL ended up getting a Diving mask with a purge valve. He has a moustache and has very lttle problems with mask flooding. He also tried on a bunch more differant masks than I did.
