I am going to buy my first Regulator and I am to take a decision between buying it as a Din or Yoke.

I see that Din is too easy to transform to Yoke by a Din-Yoke adapter, but it is harder to transform a Yoke to Din.

There is a couple of LDS in my area renting Din steel high press tanks and i want to to be able to use such tanks.

My question is does the Din-Yoke Adapter get your first stage bulkier than normal???
And am I right in choosing to go Din?????:D

True.

DIN is a more secure and more compact choice.

Yes ; it is, after all, an adapter.

Yes, you are.

Hi tarek :wavey:
there is a small nut that screws into the DIN tank valve to be able to mount a Yoke reg on; usually the dive operator that carry DIN tanks will provide it on request.
However, majority purchase a DIN reg with a DIN/Yoke adapter

Thanks all,

So even if my LDS have both Din and Yoke Tank, you would prefer to get a Din regulator?

Also does Din tanks necessarily have more press inside than Yoke ones?????

BTW, in Egypt the common are European standards (DIN)
up to the operator, he can fill the DIN cyl. to 200 bar or go up to 300 bar

Most DIN regs can handle 4500psi. Most yokes can only handle 3000 psi. That's why you generally see DIN valves on steel tanks. It's not the the regulator itself can't take the extra pressure, but the yoke fitting can't take as much pressure as the DIN can. Otherwise, the first stages of the regulators are identical.

It makes sense to go with DIN if you have the option. If nothing else, DIN is much less of an entanglement hazard on your back. Also if you need to rent tanks where DIN is a lot more common so they have to use an insert to accommodate your yoke regulator, this can cause leaks unless tightened properly and all o-rings double-checked. OTOH pressure issue (3442psi vs 3500psi) for HP tanks is a red herring, newer yokes can handle high pressures just fine, I used my yoke MK2s at 4000 psi, no problems.

In other words, yoke is not bad, but all else being equal, DIN makes more sense.

DIN is the best overall, higher tank working pressure and captured O-ring, hence the reason that the tech guys go DIN...............

If you have your own DIN tanks or can easily rent DIN tanks the then that seems like the path.........................

There is a downside to DIN..............

Most resorts in the Caribbean do not supply DIN valve tanks, so to use a DIN Reg on one of these AL 80's you will need a DIN/Yoke Adapter.................

Personally, I don't like the DIN Reg/w Yoke adapter on AL 80 tanks, they add about an inch of additional depth to the regulator and when you take a skinny 7.25 inch diameter tank the Reg sits much closer to your head and depending on where you place your tank you could hit your head on it............at least I do.........

I recommend you dive a DIN/Yoke Adapter before you buy a DIN Reg to see if you have the same issue I do........

Also when you use an Adapter you give up the benefit of the captured O-ring, in fact you have added a second failure point to your rig.......

I have a complete DIN set (both single tank and doubles) for my local diving and have a Yoke Reg (single tank only) for travel..........

Crazy I know, but it seems most folks end up with a collection of Regs over the long haul....................

Hope this helps..........M

If you purchase Yoke regs in the beginning and later have them changed out to DIN you will have the Yoke piece for travel.

That is how I started, Yoke and then changed over to DIN. This takes care of my local diving here in California.

Now and when I travel to places that only have the Yoke tanks, I will go down to my LDS and have the change out my DIN back to my Yoke and fly to my destination and have fun.

Because of this route I will avoid the DIN/Yoke adapter that adds bulk to your setup.

When I return I will change out back to DIN.

Hope this helps out...
