This is picking up on the traveling with weights post....

When we dove in Bermuda the shop was proud of their home poured weighs made from salvage. I was less impressed with lots of burrs, flash and an overall poor finish.

We have some upcoming trips and I am not looking forward to having the same sort of stuff grating at me and my wetsuit on every dive for a week. The file (if I take it) would be in the checked baggage. Have any other divers been anal enough to bring a file so they can deburr their weights?

Wow...never ran into that dilemma yet! I used some that were dropped so many times that it you even attempted to thread them through a belt it would cause you to quit diving! ( but thankfully I have an integrated BC!)

I'd take the file...give you something to do on the ride out to the site!

(btw...love the Chapin quote... I was lucky enough to see one of his last shows!)

Why don't you pick up a cheap neoprene belt with pockets?

agree with all that - Filing lead doesn't seem like a good idea. Pocket belts might help if you ran into this but they're also nice for other reasons. And I've never been anyplace with weights that seemed a problem like that.

Get yourself a belt that has the pouch type containers intended to accept typical lead weights. These work great and prevent the weights from rubbing holes in yourself or pretty wetsuit and even increase comfort somewhat. N
