11th annual Dive Into the Past, the Twin Cities Shipwreck and Scuba Show
The Great Lakes Shipwreck Preservation Society has announced the 11th annual Dive Into the Past, the Twin Cities Shipwreck and Scuba Show.
This year the show will feature presentations by historians, explorers, archeologists, divers, mariners and noted authors. Discover SCUBA and Discover Rebreathers classes will be held in the hotel pool and Moorings classes on Saturday. Spend a day exploring shipwrecks and maritime history. Shop the best of Minnesotas scuba shops, meet representatives, plan your next vacation or class, and ask questions all in one location.
Dive Into Adventure is for all ages and will be held the weekend before the main show at Underwater Adventures Aquarium in the Mall of America, February 20, 2010, 10a.m. 3p.m.
The speaker schedule is: Lady Elgin: Titanic of the Great Lakes marine historian and author Brendon Baillod explores the history, mythology and archeology of the legendary and tragic Lake steamer Lady Elgin. Lost in 1860 off Illinois with over 400 lives, the disaster remains the deadliest sinking in Great Lakes history; The Salvage of the Juliett retired Navy diver, Glen Milisci, tells the story of the salvage attempt of a Russian war class submarine; Where is the Polly? the history of the Russian built gunboat Politofsky, will be presented by shipwreck explorer and researcher Randy Beebe; So Terrible a Storm author Curt Brown presents the epic tale of the sailors and ships caught in Lake Superiors brutal Thanksgiving Day storm of 1905; and Spear fishing in South Dakota Caleb Gilkerson.

The Great Lakes Shipwreck Preservation Society is a non-profit, tax-exempt organization established in 1996 to stabilize and protect deteriorating shipwrecks in the Great Lakes region. The Dive Into the Past Shows began in 1999 to showcase shipwreck diving, sport diving and maritime history in the Great Lakes and local areas, and has expanded over the years to include: ocean diving, cave diving, exhibitors, raffle and silent auction.
