Sunscreen.....nothing fries your face faster than floating on the service being debriefed by your instructor.

I remember a friend of mine from a few years ago....he was balding and a fair redhead to boot. He carried an old nylon baseball hat....one of those flashy neon jazzy ones that were popular eons ago folded up and tucked in the pocket of his BC jacket. If he had to float on the surface for any amount of time, he'd whip that ugly hat out and pop it on his redheaded bald head.

One of my smarter friends......

Lunch, munchies, plenty to drink, chairs, mat, towels, flipflops for shower, sturdy sandals or old sneakers, wide brimmed hat, sanitizing hand gel or wipes (long walk to running water, portalets are closer), extra "necessary" paper as portalet tends to run out on busy weekends, clothespin for nose when using portalet, etc.

Don't forget the Red Pig Inn in Ottawa for dinner!:D Beer & Ribs UMMMM, no wonder why my last wet suit "shrunk".

I'm pretty sure that our class is headed to the Red Pig on Saturday evening for supper. My instructor mentioned something about that.

By the way, how are fires, firewood, and camp cooking handled at Gilboa? Are there individual fire pits, or are there charcoal grill stands like you may see in many parks?

Mike sells firewood, it's illegal to move firewood from state to state or even county to county thanks to the emerald ash borer. There are tire rims at the campsites to build fires in. You can see where people have moved the rims around to differents spots on each site to accomodate their set-up. Keep your gear well away from the fire, flying burning embers and scuba gear aren't a great mix. There are some of the charcoal grill stands available, I can't remember if every site has one but the sites I use generally do.
