Hello Ladies,
I just realized that my girlfirend only has a 7mm wetsuit and we are going diving in Turks and Cacaos next week. I dive with a 3mm, but what do you girls think I should do? Buy her a 3mm or let her swim in a 7? She has not realized this either.

Thanks

Buy her a 3mm shorty (I have a long sleeve shorty) and get her a dive skin to wear under it. The skin will help protect the exposed areas on her like her arms and legs that the shorty doesn't cover up.

Unless she chills very easily, she won't need a wet suit in Turks & Caicos next week. The water is warm.

The turks are a bit closer to open Atlantic than where Walter has been diving, so water temps can swing there a bit more due to storms etc. Even so this time of year you shold be looking at 80+°F water. If she has a twiggy figure, go for a 3 mil. With any more meat on her bones should be steamer, polartec skin, or bikini time. Turks are in the SE quadrant of the Bahamas in this plot.

I have a "Twiggy" figure and I was a bit chilly in a 3 mil shorty. I prefer a 3mil full length suit if I'm doing long dives (that was the case in GT). You DON'T want that 7mil! You know how easily she gets cold. Remember 80 degree water is still going to be sapping body heat and you'll probably chill if you dive for an hour just gawking at the gorgeous scenery in GT.

Have a great trip! It's a beautiful place to dive!

Don't get a shorty.

They are a waste of money. No protection from sharp thingys in the leg area and you have to buy a full suit if you dive anywhere colder than Turks or Cacaos.

Having said that I have a women's shorty in a size 11-12 that I will sell you.

I dove the Bahamas a few weeks ago. I brought my 3mm jumpsuit with me. The water was 82 degrees. I never touched my 3mm. Instead I wore my Dive Goddess lycra skin.

I think Dive Goddess skins make great gifts for girls. They're bright and colorful and very hot. They also make it impossible for your buddy to lose you under water. Take a look at their website at www.divegoddess.com.

Another great bit of girlie gear are the colorful skins and suits made by aeroskin. www.aeroskin.com. I would love to have one of their tie died jumpsuits for warm water.

I agree with Buff's comments about shorties. It's good to protect your extremities from stingies and other nasties.

As everyone else has said - the 7mm is way too much. What she will need probably depends upon how cold she tends to get and what she will be doing on the dives. Even in warm water I wear a two piece 3mm because I spend a lot of time doing photography so I am not moving much and I get cold. I like the jane/jacket combo because it gives me more options - if I get too warm I can just wear the jacket with a skin.
Just some thoughts.
Have a great time on your trip!!

Why? because she can also wear it under the 7mm in the winter & create a virtual 8.5mm without adding buoyancy
