Hi all,

I will be staying in they playacar area of playa del carmen and am planning to do my padi open water with Dennis' operation 'Aquanauts' i've been hearing so much about. They have said that they can try to pick us up from the hotel or drop us off when possible, but otherwise we will need to make our own way there / back.

Does anyone know how much approx a taxi will cost to aquanauts dive shop? They are based at Comercial Marina loc. 2A Col Centro, Solidaridad C.P. 77750, Puerto Aventuras

If its far - i guess i could soon add upif we need a one or two taxi's every day.

Otherwise is there a bus you can take there, or can you walk perhaps?!!

Cheers guys.

If I remember correctly, a taxi from Playa to the Zero G dive shop (not far from Puerto Aventuras) was $20. It is not at all difficult to find a taxi to do this -- our driver was so pleased at the long fare that he gave us his phone number, so we could call him to come and pick us up to come back. You can also travel on the "colectivos", which are mini-vans that run routes along the main highway. You just have to make sure you get on one that is going as far as you want to go. I don't know what they cost; I have never ridden them myself.

You can't walk. It's about a 20 minute drive at freeway speeds.

$20 sounds about right for a cab from PA to PDC. As for the Collectivo, they will pick you up on Highway 307 (fifteen to twenty minute walk from Aquanauts) and drop you off near the central bus station in PDC. From there you will need to take a cab to your hotel in Playacar, call it $5. Less expensive, but a lot more time consuming. For the $40 a day you would spend on cabs, you could rent a car with full insurance.

Hi,

Sorry if there was some confusion about being picked up for doing your OWR. We will pick you up from Playacar. Send an email to the shop and tell them that I (Dennis) said to pick you up. I will also confirm this with Natalie (who does the majority of our emails) in the morning.

Cheers,

Dennis

I'm glad you came on and posted, Dennis. I thought you were slacking off.

I will say Dennis runs a great operation and does offer personal service you don't see at many places. He picked us up our first trip down there, but after learning the way we just met him at the shop every morning in our rental car.

cheeky, I'm not sure how much you're paying for the airport transfer, etc, but rental cars are inexpensive in Mexico. I've paid about $150 USD/week and enjoyed the freedom of being able to get around on my own, especially on the non-diving days.

Hi Dennis, I've sent you a PM. We are leaving for Mexico on Sunday morning from the UK, so hopefully hear back from you soon!

Cheers

Joe

Hi Cheeky, Natalie picked us up ever morning we were diving and we stayed at CRT. Couple of times dropped us back off and sometimes we just went off exploring after diving. I was also told the cab was $20 from PA to PDC. We really enjoyed our dives. You picked a good op.

We also used collectivos which are cheap and easy.
