My son is the same. He gets more time on test in school. In addition, he has executive functioning disorder which means he needs a bit more direction. However, he is very focused on subjects that interest him. He took the class and pool session a few days after turning 10. About 2 months later (scheduling issues), he passed the open water portion. His instructors told me he was a very good diver. I have diving with him for the past 5 years and I will admit that he is probably one of the best divers I know. I had him reading the book weeks in advance of the class and viewing the DVD multiple times.

So, yes your son can get certified.
