Location
San Fernando Valley (L.A.)
Havent been in the water since 1999 but I want to start picking it up again. I am currently living in L.A. and have heard some good stuff about the kelp forests off Catalina.

I need a refresher - can anyone recommend a good instructor in the LA area, which is cheap but fun?

Great forum by the way!

Howdy and welcome to SB!

It'd help if you added your location to your profile. :thumb: Cheap is an inappropriate word in scuba, but you can certainly compare prices on quality. Diving the Channel Islands kelp beds is great - done it a few times. It's a shame that the warm watter wusses here won't travel out to dive the Pacific coast with me. Lots of critters you don't see anywhere else in the world. :11:

If you haven't yet, click Forums above and start going thru the list - looking for those of interest to you, especially your local dive club. Click the link in my Sig below to PM me if I can help you around here..

NO help on the recommendation, but congrats on getting wet again and welcome to the ScubaBoard.

Use Sport Chalet divers for a great refresher and some dicounts on rentals and merchandise. :crafty:
As far as diving the Channel Islands, I have had great trips out there for over 10 years. If you haven't been diving in the waters out there you can get over 150 feet of visibilty and this is the BEST time of year for it! :eyebrow:

As far as a charter, I'd check the dive area in your local Sport Chalet.

Good Luck!

Thanks all for your recommendations! Seems like a great forum with fun people!

I am planing my refresher and possible a boat dive next weekend (if works permits) and will post my experience with a dive shop, etc.

Thank you!!
