So what is the consensus? If you're in Cayman for a short time (8 hrs) - arrive at 8 sail at 5 - is it better to book through the ship or just do the shore dive? Don Foster's suggested the shore dive. How is it and how does it compare to boat dives? I've never been there so I am trying to make an informed decision. Hopefully we'll go back when we can spend some time.

We used Seasports ( http://www.bestdivingingrandcayman.com/ ) when our cruise in January stopped at Grand Cayman. Their schedule (10am departure, 1pm return) was most condusive the our ship's schedule. If you book on your own, just show the cruise ship staff a copy of an email showing with the time your self booked trip departs, and they will put you on a tender to meet your schedule. They put us on the first tender even though we did not book through the cruise ship. If we did it again, I would try one of the operations offering shore diving because I could probably squeeze three tanks in over a two tank boat dive.
