A mask is life support if you have gas changes and or deco stops. Thats why we carry a spare. As far as DIR, most of it makes sense, some does not. DIR say take nothing with you thats not nessary. One of my buddies took the fundimentals class and they cut the neo sleeves off the sholder straps. Said ya didnt need them. Well I have see a lot of wear on the sholders of dry suits and the intanglement hazard of these is nonexistant. I use an extra d ring on my waist beside my canister light. This is strictly for my video cam. Puttin it there keeps it out of the way from everything while I am on deco. IF it does snag a line it is very accesable.If I ever want to go to work for GUE then they can have my d ring!
