I am going to Cuba on my first Dive trip with my gear, this week. What do I need to bring (in terms of Dive Gear)? Hear is my list:

BCD
Computer
Log Book
Mask
Fins
Boots
Snorkel
3mm Shorty
Gloves
Noise Maker
Light
Regulator
Camera
Anti-Fog

What I am not taking (Because it will cost too much to ship or I don't have the cash for it right now):
Tanks
Weights
Full suit (I don't have one)

Anything I am forgetting or should add?

Okay, so let me guess.... you're new at this? :crafty: Tanks and weights are universal- even in Cuba.

Drift diving? More than likely. How about a safety sausage. Be sure to ask the DM how to deploy it from 20fsw at your safety stop. (bring 20' of string to go with it. A whistle. Toothpaste for your mask defog. Camera? Don't forget the silicone and the power converter for the digital batteries. If it's a film camera, throw it away now. ;)

Gloves? For what? Leave them home, learn to dive and not ever touch.

Your list looks good, but I would concentrate more on the non-dive stuff. If you could tell other well travelled SCUBABoarders where you were going and staying, they might come up with other ideas- stuff like soap, shampoo, batteries, etc. Immediately give your DM that noisemaker. You will find nothing that anyone else needs to be alerted to- he, however, will show you his world.

Take along a Leatherman pocket tool or similar- it will make a great gift for your Boatsman or DM. Think along those lines.

A lighter for the cuban cigars you will be smoking ;)

Ya, I was thinking about a signalling device. I am going to my LDS tonight so I will pick one up. I have done alot of Vacations just none diving. I got the other stuff in control.

Take some Safe Sea if you can. When I was there a couple years ago (in July) there was something in the water in the Trinidad and Bay of Pigs area. I think it was like a jellyfish tentacle sort of thing but it was everywhere. I remember swimming at the beach in the town of Trinidad and feeling like something was stinging me. But there was nothing there and no mark was left. I'm thinking it was jellyfish tentacle pieces.

Don't forget the sunblock! Enjoy your stay. Cuba is a beautiful country even as destroyed and poor as it is today.

Oh, and if you want to drink the best Mojito in the world go to the cabaret show at the Hotel Nacional in Habana. The show is worth it too. Very old fashioned and a glimpse at the nightlife of Cuba of old.
