OK the springs make since
I have caught my fin straps on line from my real, monofilament line [now thats a drag], and of copurse good old sea weed.

So now how do I atatch them to my plastic fins

How about hoses - I don't use any hose protectors so that I can visualy see my hoses, If one starts to deteriate i replace it. what is your thinking.

I use hose protectors, but keep an eye on the hoses.

Rubber fins - what's the difference?

Fins like the Jets and Turtles are quite negative, and they easily allow for different kick styles and thereby helps reduce silting in overhead environments.

What about mask strap, I cary a spare, and replace my strap at any sign of wear. what is the DIR suggestion?

Most use a "Slap Strap" by Trident (I beleive it's Trident).

Something about neopreme drysuits - I just switched from a Trilaminate to 7 mil full neopreme. all of my ocean diving is in water ranging from 40 to 44 degrees for several hours. not to mention ice diving but they are usualy short dives. I also use argon is that ok?

Argon is fine, but not the neoprene drysuit according to DIR.

Why do we not like bungy straps on wings - snaging? it seems to me that if my wings were flapping around in the breeze they would be even more prone to snagging. I have been in some pretty tight spots in wrecks and haven't had a problem.

Before we get back into this one again, go here and read how we all feel about bungies:

Becaus it is the DIR way is not a reason for doing something

"Argon is fine, but not the neoprene drysuit according to DIR. "

I am wondering why it is not the DIR way. is it the warmth of the water, the boyancy, or just the uniformity of the team.

Slap strap makes since I have one but just havn't ever put it on. I guess i was waiting for my current one to break first.

Fins mine are very negative, if i drop them while putting them on they head right to the bottom

The bundgy straps I new was a sensitive issue and don't want to get into a big debate. to each their own. but thanks for the link i'll check it out

hose protectors I once used them but found that it made the hoses stiff and theu tended to project from my gear. which i like to have it all tucked in nicely

any other things i should now about for this DIR idealoligy

Hey Doug,

There's a bunch to know regarding DIR. Do you have all the links yet?

As for neoprene drysuits, I went from a neoprene drysuit to a Viking to my Abyss. I don't like full neoprene drysuits for the following reasons:

They tend to be stiffer and less flexible than a well fitting shell suit.
They are considerably more buoyant.
They lose their insulation value as you descend.
You can't adjust the insulation.

I believe these are also the DIR arguments against them too. I just don't like them compared to a shell suit, and I routinely dive in water temps less than 40F for up to 90mins at a time.

As for the fins, overhead guys like the Jets and Turtles due to their small size, good efficiency and propulsion, ease of using multiple kick styles, and they kick up less silt than long fins.

Take care.

Mike
