I guess the next step would be to take an absurd situation and require absurd training to prepare for it.
 
Or add to the DIR courses: thermal lance and underwater cutting/demo techniques so that the team stuck in the wreck can cut them selves out.... would that constitute a backup cutting device?

Define a scenario involving a team of three technical divers in which removal of one's rig would be the optimal response. I'm having difficulty envisioning a single circumstance where removing one's rig would be the best response available.

I do believe you were in the room as we watched Mr. Chatterton deftly remove his rig to get inside the 352... ;)

Nevermind that I've seen others relatively easily get inside in doubles, albeit through a different hatch... It sure looked good on video. So there's your scenario - looking cool while getting into the 352.
