Seriously? It's a big world and not everybody has to dive from an inflatable boat.

It is indeed a big world. And I've dived off some very small boats and some epic ones. You seem completely closed off to the fact that sometimes it may not be the right thing to take SM and are beyond reason.

You're right, a closed mind is a terrible thing to waste. Just like the guy who thinks sidemount is ONLY appropriate in caves.

Persuade me then. Don't just call me close minded and not present a valid argument. So far only Subcooled has bothered.

You guys need a common enemy :D

No persuasion is necessary because nobody cares how you dive.

We just think it's just a tad presumptuous of you to tell everybody else what equipment is appropriate (or inappropriate) for them.

Actually I haven't told anyone what they should dive. I stated why BM is better for ow deco, with rationale. Try reading my posts again.

I'm interested in why you recommend diving in SM in ow. Yet you keep avoiding answering the question.

Actually, you did.

Basically a Cave example, which is where SM should only be used.

There you go.

However if it makes you happy:

  1. Impossible to lose all my gas from a single failure
  2. No need to isolate tanks during a free-flow.
  3. Turning off a tank doesn't require extreme flexibility.
  4. Tanks can be handed up to the boat crew one at a time, which means that the boat doesn't need a crane and my joints don't have to climb a ladder with 120Lbs of steel on my back.
  5. I can dive doubles anywhere in the world that has SCUBA cylinders.

flots.

Actually I stated my preference, not an edict :-D

  1. Sadly nothing to do with why sm is good for a reef dive. Thanks for replying.

Sidemount in open water reef diving allows me to tilt my head back comfortably to look up --at that huge Manta Ray passing inches over my forehead (unlike with. BP/W & fixed too high single tank adapter, head banging the back of my skull on the 1st stage/tank cylinder valve). . .

You guys crack me up.

Valve hitting you in the head? I know I know! The worlds most complicated side mount system is the solution!!

or just move the tank lower.

Hilarious.
