Scubapro's new computers advertise a newer version of SmartTrak that fully works with Mac. Assuming I get the IRDA to USB dongle, can I now install this software on my Mac and use it with my Galileo Sol and, finally, be able to enjoy the benefits of this software?

Thanks!

You can download ScubaPro LogTRAK for the Mac for free from the ScubaPro website and have been able to for a couple of years now. It will work with the UWatec IrDA dongle and will "probably" (but not guaranteed) work with some cheaper 3rd party USB IrDA dongles. SmartTrak was just the name of the PC only version. (And there used to be JTrak that worked on the Mac but is no longer available).

Our software from the Mac App Store (not free) called DiveLogDT will also download your Galileo Sol on the Mac using the UWatec USB IrDA dongle as well as many 3rd party ones.

Let us know if you have any questions,
Janice

SmartTrak also allows you to configure the galileo from the PC over irda. It's much easier than using the three buttons for things like adding your name, address and phone number to galileo's startup screen. Actually I'm not sure you can add your contact information and upload maps without the software.

I don't think you can do that with logtrak, or any other third party software.

For logging I use subsurface. Personally I think the interface and features are superior to anything I've seen. It also works on darn near any operating system you can imagine; OSX, Windows, Linux etc.. Also, it's free.

Are you sure it's smarttrak they're advertising for mac? I don't see it available on their website.

It's true that we/DiveLogDT does not support updating the user information. LogTRAK may support it, I'm not sure. It has a way to "read dive computer settings", and I thought that after you did that, you could change something and then "update dive computer settings". But I don't have a way to try it out right now.

subsurface does not support downloading IrDA based dive computers on the Mac. AFAIK, It's just LogTRAK and DiveLogDT.

I use DiveLog Manager (same as DiveLog DT) with my Sol and Lunas. I also use LogTRAK to adjust the computer settings. I have used both Mac and Windows versions. The Mac version is good but not quite as through as the windows version. You can pretty much do the same with both however.
