I came across this article about a problem with lines in the images of some photo’s taken by G10 cameras.
Have anybody experienced this yet?

Canon Confirms Issues with Some G10 Cameras
Canon today issued a service notice for the PowerShot G10, confirming that lines sometimes appear in captured images. Please contact Canon if your camera is one of the affected models.
To Owners of the PowerShot G10 digital camera:
We have discovered that in rare instances, lines may appear in images captured by some units of the PowerShot G10 digital camera. Accordingly, we would like to convey the details and our service policy concerning this phenomenon.
Affected Models: Products with the following serial numbers are affected. Please check the serial number on the bottom of the camera to see if your camera is affected.
Serial Numbers whose fourth and fifth digits from the left indicate the following numbers may be affected. Example: ***50*****, ***51*****, ***52*****,***53*****, ***80*****, ***81*****,***82*****, ***83*****
Among products with the serial numbers described above, if there is a marking on the lens side inside the battery cover like the one in the image below, the issue has already been corrected, and you may continue to use your camera as is with no further action required.

D--I ran into this service bulletin on another site some weeks back. I have a G-10 that falls in this number series and it doesn't have the little red mark inside the battery cover. I've checked back and have yet to see any lines in any pics and I'm several thousand shots into the camera. While I didn't ck all the images I began to realise that unless it was appearing in a smooth, even toned area, like a sky, skin tones etc. I probably wasn't going to see it--if I was getting it at all. I also figured they were not very big lines and a simple clone tool operation could fix the "can not be fixed" phenomena if it did show up.

If the problem were frequent I would have seen it by now but I gather that if it does occur, it is random. I debated sending the camera in and might still do that before the warranty is up, though the old "if it ain't broke..." corollary does hold some sway. As many G-10 shooters as there are out there, I'm thinking if it were a big deal there would have been numerous posts by now--but maybe your post will shake some loose. // ww
ps--You'll enjoy your Canon housing whenever you get it!

I dropped my G-10 off at Canon, it was done within an hour.

I have not seen anywhere anyone actually seeing this in their images. But, I sent my camera off when I didn't need it for a few weeks. Canon USA paid shipping both ways and total turnaround time was about a week.

OK now I have a question. I do not shoot a G10, I shoot an XSi but does this line appear in the full size picture or just on the windows generated thumbnail? Does it appear on prints as well? The reason I ask, when I look at my 10's of 1000's of pictures, often times they will appear to have a line from top to bottom in the thumbnail but when I open it and/or print it, it is not there. Is this what you are experiencing?

The lines were actually in the image data...seen pictures of the issue. I have one of the effected ones, and after, well more than 10,000 images, have yet to see one with it.

SSteve--Sounds like image size/screen display issues in the browser, not an actual artifact in the image file. Bet if you changed the image display size in the browser they would disappear. Kinda grabs your attention though I bet! // ww
