Please note that I put this in the "New Divers" subforum -- I KNOW those of us with hundreds of dives generally don't expect anyone to do most of those things for us.

but ALL the noobs do?

i think that for a more accurate result the poll should have had "none of the above" as an option

also a "all of the above' would have been nice too

another vote for show me cool stuff. This is important when I'm in a new area and don't have "native" eyes yet. As a noob I depended upon the navigation of the dive. I figured if I followed the dm I would end back up on the boat.
course follwing the dm put me in some bad situations but I survived. :)

All the above is there - just check every block.

You didn't put any of the things that a dive guide actually should do for you like:

1. Inform you of depths, and hazards.
2. Assist with navigating particularily tricky dive sites.
3 Inform you of any special procedures required for the boat/area.
4. Assist with the formation of buddy teams when single divers are involved.
5. Inform you of any local laws about diving the site you are going to dive.
6. Provide assistance and support to the buddy teams in the event of an emergency or dive accident.
7. Coordinate search and rescue efforts in the case of a lost diver.
8. In the case of a drift dive, be responsible for the main dive line and buoy.

Just to name a few

really? oO

why should i when i can just click once?

Lynne I don't think this poll is appropriate for newbie or experienced divers. I believe that most of the divers,on scubaboard including the newbies are not the target demographic you are looking to reach.
The people who complain about lack of DM support are here just to complain and most of the people who are here to learn and share diving knowledge are not DM dependent.
If your poll included a none of the above option I think the vote would favor that option almost unanimously.

It won't let me vote because it says I must select atleast one item. Of that list, all of them are responsibilities of myself and/or my buddy.

If the last two items where changed from "Manage" to "Assist With", then they would actually be functions of a dive guide.

I think the dive guide should not run out of air, and show us what we came to see, Manta Rays. Personally I do not like guided dives in groups. Private boat and DM is fine though.

Otherwise, non of the above choices fit my style of diving.

Although in places like Cozumel it is nice to have them clean and store the gear for the stay. If they are capable of putting it together sure why not, but I am perfectly happy switching my own tanks out and setting my own gear up.

Well... If those are the only options... then noone who checks ANYTHING on that list should ever come to Norway to dive.

Up here DMs will usually stay on shore, or in the boat. They will give a divebriefing, and keep tabs on times and # of divers down and up...
(And possibly cook you some hot soup for those cold winter days...)
