All,
I have an opportunity to pick up a used (only 4 times in a pool) Mares v42 Proton Metal, purchased new in late 2006.
I currently own a first generation Mares Abyss (the original style with the blue "M" on the second stage) that I purchased new the year it first went on sale. I've used my MR22 for several years as my NITROX regulator and it is still breathing and looking like new. It gets an annual service and other than the occasional problem with free flow at the surface, it has performed flawlessly down to 150 ft (my max depth to date).
I am getting ready to take a DIR-F class using my Abyss and will likely go the "tech route" so my question is... is it worth upgrading to a Proton Metal?
EDIT - I have seen a few threads related to my question elsewhere on SCUBA Board but I'm interested in a company perspective. How does Mares view the Proton and the Abyss?
Thank you,
Ltstanfo
