I bought the Avanti Superchannels fullfoot fins after reading that same report and don't regret it one bit. I use them for all my diving except when I go to Bonaire because of the shore diving. They have performed just as well or better than the open heel fins I own and are very easy to travel with.

Buy them!

Thanks - I'm getting a set.
I'll have so much extra room I won't know what to pack!

Do people still use fin keepers.

To answer your question, for cold dives I use Mares Avanti Quadro Strap heel fins with 3mm boots, for warm water boat (and shore) dives I always use my Mares Avanti Superchannel full foot fins and I do feel I have the same thrust but better control when I use full foot fins because the boots + strap fins cause a bit extra buoyancy.

I know a couple divers that love them for their drysuits.

Fin keepers / fin grips / fixe-palmes are, or at least were, popular with underwater hockey players who wear them with full foot fins (particularly Technisub Alas). A company in the Rainbow Nation of South Africa used to manufacture silicone fin grips in solid colours such as red and yellow to contrast with black fins, but has since discontinued the line.

The Japanese diving equipment company Gull Marine Sports still produces rubber fin grips in blue, however:

The American swim gear company TYR has fin grips colour-coded by size:

The TYR site shows that there is more than one way of wearing fin grips, in this case worn inside of fins rather than the more traditional method of wearing them outside the fins, over the ankle, arch and instep :

Try a good freedive fin, like the Cressi 3000 LD ( LD for long distance, meaning it is a softer freedive fin--good for many, many hours at a time freediving for a good freediver, or for just ease of use period for a snorkeler desiring to get good equipment that will allow them to begin to drastically improve their skills). This is a full foot fin that would be superior for either snorkeling, freediving, or scuba diving for you.

Cressi Sub 'Gara 2000' swim scuba dive fins. Size 10-11 - eBay (item 250708091636 end time Oct-14-10 19:00:57 PDT)

Had to wait a few days to mostly agree with Dan; for me the answer is full foot free dive fins for nearly every dive/snorkel. The reason I waited is because I did not want competition on the above linked auction! :D

Yoo Hoo; Cressie Gara 2000's for $72 shipped! I don't even have to take new photos. :dork2:
