Any help .......would be mucho apreciated........

Looking to go in begining of April...........

Thanks again folks!!

Well you picked one great place to take a dive vacation. Ft. Lauderdale is a wreck divers dream, and the reefs aren't bad either.

Here are a couple of places I've dived with and really like. They can set you up with an entire package if you like.

Pro Dive is one of my favorites. Nice big boat with a very professional crew. They dive everyday and if you're not a morning person then you'll love Prodive as the only trips they do leave at 12:30.

South Florida Diving HQ I just dived with them for the first time last week. They have a couple wide cat style boats they use which makes them very stable. A good crew with a sense of humor.

American Dream II A nice NEW boat with a great crew near the Ft. Lauderdale Beach. I'm not sure if they can make hotel reseverations for you but I'm sure they can point you in the right direction as they dock right behind the Hyatt Regency Pier 66 hotel.

Dixie Divers isn't in the Ft. Lauderdale area but they have a great listing of the dive sites in the area if you want more info on them. Check out the "Tracy", "Tenneco Towers" and the "RSB-1". These are some of my favorites.

Hope to see you down here in April.

Ditto on Scott's list of dive operators. You really can't find a "bad" one here or in the Keys.

We don't dive from piers here, since the reef is only about 100 yards off shore at high tide. Lauderdale by the Sea is known as the shore diving capital of the US.

So, as far as where to stay, we have some very good shore diving and a lot of hotels/motels so close you can gear-up in your room and walk out. Do a search on Yahoo from the following map location and pick anything on El Mar or A1A within 3/4 mile:

4200 El Mar Drive
Lauderdale by the Sea, FL 33308

El Mar Drive would be the best place to stay, but A1A might be a little cheaper although it's AROUND the block from El Mar hotels.

I always suggest Holiday Inn, which has the whole block and a dive site right across the street (Palm Avenue). It's also a block south of where I live on Hibiscus.

To find a shore dive, just look here for a thread with the day you're interested in. If there isn't one, just follow the example of others and post your own (ALWAYS include the date & place in the header, ie "4/1/04 Lauderdale by the Sea AM dive."

They Keys are worth a trip from there, even if you've been before. I leave 3 hours to drive down to Key Largo and am always early enough to have leasurely breakfast before embarking. Of course, you have to time the traffic. It's a full day, so you'll be back the same evening no problem.

Another option is Venice on the West Coast, where we dive for fossilized shark's teeth. You'll get 50 your first outing if the visibilty is good.

The weather usually cooperates, so you're bound to have a great trip. Be sure to organize a shore dive while here to meet the gang.

Let me knwo if you're loking for a more upscale hotel. I'm familiar with a couple.

I think they still have a free dvd/cd rom titled the same as what I wrote on the subject line. It's pretty cool.

Don't forget the Sea Emperor, and the Ancient Mariner. Of course, Tenecco is an awsome dive.

Thanks for the info......

I am looking for an upper scale hotel.........Im on vacation and need some pampering.....

Also....is there any dive ops that let you dive your computer at all? Myself and buddy are expierenced divers...and would love to get our moneys worth....

thanks again.!

Most of the dive ops around here let you dive your computer. Just make sure you have your log book and "C" card with you to show proof of experience.

If up scale is what you're looking for check out the Pier 66. Very nice place with a revolving night club on the upper floor, just around the corner from the beach and the American Dream II docks right out back.

When I book our research group into Fort Lauderdale each year, I use Resort Access who can provide surprisingly good rates on the better hotels in the area (Yankee Clipper/Trader, Marriotts etc.)

[No relationship with the above other than as satifsied customer]

Cheers,

K.

lol you're going to be sorry... I'm distributing your cell number to family and friends who will be coming in this Spring.
