I'm flattered.

...And I have a tremendous amount of respect for you as well. One, because of your accomplishments as a writer... Not to menation that writing is a passion that we both share! The other reason is because of your vast experience and knowledge. i've seen your posts on UWEX too... Just plain impressive! I want to learn from you.

But the bottom line is that depending on who you asked online, not all would share your opinion of me. There are some people I've just plain ol' ticked off... I'm so bitter that I send the occassional mail bomb into their tight little group, strictly for entertainment. As I speak, I'm staging a SeaJay comeback. They're just too much fun to "f" with.

My point is that I really AM a nice guy... But that's not everyone's opinion.

Whatever Scoob did before... Whatever got him banned... Well, my experience with him has been nothing but positive. I'll keep your mentions in my "back pocket," but until I get burned, I have to admit that I like Scoob quite a bit.

...Which is why I really would like to see him stay.

...And why I'd still like to read the thread that got him booted.

Hey EZ,

If I could have adjusted the BP I rented in 20 minutes, I would have probably bought one. But, it did not happen that way.

People who use jackets get abused so much around here they give up an don't post in the BC forum. Some get driven off this board entirely. In the Caribbean at least 75% of all divers use jackets. The most popular brand for back inflate is Zeagle and it outnumbers all other brands of back inflate BC's put together.

Oddly enough, I saw a couple of BP's down at Laguna Beach last week. The couple bought them at 5th D because they had trouble getting standard BC's to fit over their drysuits. Neither of these divers were DIR. They had AI computers and split fins.

However, a very knowledgeable IANTD trained diver vacationing there was wearing a Seaquest back inflate BC, not one of his two BP's. I guess he only uses his BP's for doubles. His cave rig had a continuous harness, but his open water BC used a so-called delux harness with a slide fastener and chest strap. He believed it to be too difficult to cut someone out of the continuous webbing harness in deep water. In his view a cave rescue scenario gear stripping would take place with the injured diver in shallow water outside the cave where the rescuers could stand.

Why would I want to do what "75%" of the Carribean divers do. An even greater percentage have an enviable bicycle kick and can kill more coral in 15 minutes than a dredge.

No one is saying that a BC won't accomplish the mission. Like many things in life, however, there are things that are adequate and there are things that are superior. BP's are the latter.

I hardly think that one experience in a rental unit is a decent basis for such a strong opinion. I didn't decide that my Zeagle would make a nice basement decoration until I had used it for an entire year.

Well, thanks for the back handed compliment.

I don't consider myself associated with Scoobiedoo, or anyone in particluar around here. If he gets banned, so be it as the decision of the Regulators.

You think I am full of BS, but that is often your definition of things you don't agree with. At least I am honest about what I know and do not know. I am sure there are some of people around here pretending to be DIR or technical divers who only get wet in the shower. If you ever have the chance to dive with me you would see I am no kook.

Meanwhile, I try to avoid making personal attacks until I have been personally attacked. And I have made a few. This board would benefit by more people taking the high road and more members not being the first to make a personal attack.

There is a difference between telling someone they are wrong when it is clear they are wrong and making a personal attack.

I think WW is right. Unless I am mistaken, he was not booted...he just managed, via his ridiculous swings from one side of the fence to another, to lose what credibility he had.

You know...it would be kinda like someone getting on here and calling DIR divers Nazis and then...say, a month later...taking DIR-F, quit smoking, completely changing their diet, and writing an article stating that a BP/Wing is really the preferred BC of serious and experienced divers...

I know that my analogy is a pretty far-fetched one, but it would be kinda like that if you can possibly imagine something as crazy as that...

And before you hit that reply button...I am just kidding...the second version of the article looks much better

You just said over 75% of Caribbean divers can kill more coral than a dredge. What is the point of that kind of exageration?

I don't do what that 75% does either in my choice of gear. When I was in OZ last year it was more like 98% in jackets. But, I have seen lots of divers in jackets with flat trim, perfect bouyancy and outstanding low air consumption. One was a Trimix instructor from Spain. I did not ask what gear he uses for technical diving, but he was quite happy to vacation in his Cressi Jacket.

I have seen lots of bicycle kickers who manage to stay away from the coral but run over other divers. It is kind of hard to fix that given the state of diving instruction and the limits agencies place on their instructors.


My gripe is with photographers who wear gloves in warm water so they don't have to check what they are holding onto when they steady themselves to take a picture. Actually, I could come up with a few other rants about camera carriers.
