attempted to dive the SG this morning, however a mdt+ current steered us south to FRENCH REEF(BENWOOD WRECK and MOLASSES jam packed). warm sunny skies, east winds <10KTS with 1-2FT swells. dive #1 buoy F12 followed by # 2 on F11 (both the two eastern deep mooring buoys, shallow sites crowded with commercial operators). A barely noticeable current, blue/green viz only 40-45FT(more typical for this reef tract), water temp 77F @ 45-85FT. giant barrel sponges in the spawn mode! TIMG provides the pics,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Nice stuff Tim

I agree, very nice shot! I've only seen sponges spawn a couple of times. Pretty cool that you saw it in the middle of the day. (BTW, they all are good)

Thank you sportxlh. We have seen them several times, always during the day. The only time I have seen coral spawning is around 11pm to midnight, and that event is fairly predictable. I do not know if sponge scientists can predict these events.

Great shots!

Thank you Yankee Dive.
