I am not terribly surprised that the owner wiped the memory card. I do that myself on trips, saving images to my LT and to an external HD, then dumping the images so I have room for taking more pics.

I looked up the mailing address for Budget at BON, and I will drop them a note about the camera, but it looks like we are nearing a dead end. Now at least we know that whoever lost the camera has not also lost all of their precious memory shots of their trip too. The value of the camera itself is not terribly significant as it is older.

I have not tried a recovery program but it's worth a try. The card does work, I copied one of my photos to it and can easily read it so if functions OK. I will look into the recovery program.

Thanks.
I have also contacted both Bonaire tourism, and Budget Rental at BON airport where the supplied the truck.
We have just about all we can, until someone comes forward, looking for it.

While I heard back right away from the Bonaire Tourism office, I never got any response at all from the Budget rental folks, which is why I did not return the camera to their office when I discovered it. Budget rentals at BON was simply too disorganized and sloppy in how they ran things, and I figured the camera would never have much chance of finding it's correct owner, if I left it with them.

My friend Herman has the memory card, and we are hoping to find a way to recover the deleted images, hoping that will help us get the camera home.

There is not much more we can do to find the camera's owner, and since it is older, they may have simply written it off as gone for good. I will wait a few more weeks, and then file the camera away, or give it away to someone who wants to play with it. Heaven knows I do not need another camera myself.

Thank you so much for doing everything possible to find the rightful owner of this camera. If the camera is in working order, decent shape and functional, perhaps you may want to consider donating it to the Disabled Veterans Scuba Project? If feasible, please let me know and I will cover the shipping charges.

Since I do not have a charger that fits the battery for this camera, we really do not know what sort of working order the camera really is in. I certainly will keep your suggestion in mind, once we have the memory card back.

If anyone can find the owner this board can, yall remember the camera that was found floating in florida that had video of a turtle trying to eat it, and a few other pictures, like the tail number on a comercial flight, and this board tracked it back to the owner in denmark. the origin of that camera was also Bonaire.

so the serious question is do you make your camera float so that a turtle can swim it to florida or sink so that a diver can find it in a truck? I am thinking I would rather have someone from scubaboard find my camera that a turtle.

At least there are no pics of toothbrushes (you know the urban legend). LOL

Good on you for trying! I know I would appreciate it.
