You are a good person Gypsy Jim...my DB lost my camera in Largo a few years ago. He was very distraught, as was I. A few days later on Scubaboard, there was a message from Mugsy that a fellow member found it. F106A, from New Jersey is that gentleman. After a few messages back and forth, he mailed the camera back to me!!! Hopefully your post will yield the same result. I still use the camera.
thanks again F106A.

Herman, I shipped the memory card from the camera to you last week, to see if your software can read it, and hopefully see if there are any clues we can use to get the camera home. Let me know if that works out.

Couldn't you replace the battery to look at the pics on the camera itself? Obviously, I don't know what is involved in that but seems more simple than sending cards around in the mail. Just call me confused but admiring of the extra mile you folks are willing to go.

I would need both a new battery, and a charger, in order to view the images on the camera itself. I felt that this would be a more cost effective way to see if the memory card holds any clues.

Herman likes to tinker, and we fee it is worth a little effort if we can play detective, and find some clues that might help direct us to the owner.

And that assumes you can find them, this is an older camera based on the media (microdrive). I happen to have a reader for them so it's just a few bucks in postage expense.

I found batteries and charger online, but as it is not my camera, and all I am trying to do is track down its rightful owner, I saw no reason to make that investment.

Besides, the memory is small enough to send 1st class mail.

Ok I have the info....must have been a real boring trip. The reason you can't read any of the files is because there are no "readable" files....no photos in other words. The files that are on the drive are "house keeping" files used by the camera to keep up with photo numbering, how much room is remaining and the like and are not intended to be read/used by the operator. The camera had been wiped clean of photos before you found it so that is a dead end. Do you want me to send the dive back?

Herman - before sending the card back, did you try going through the card with any of the UNDELETE recovery type programs? It doesn't always work but the larger the card capacity, the more likely you can recover something useful. There are several free packages such as RECUVA and TOKIWA #11 on page 2) that I have used successfully to recover a mistakenly 'delete all'd' SD card. Here is a link to the article that I used to find these tools, and more.
