Too bad it had a serial number!!!

Met up with Lee and Brian for some sharks' teeth hunting at the Alhambra site. Vis was pretty poor, around 3', but had a great time. Lee, it was nice to meet you, and Brian nice to dive with you again. How'd the second dive go?

Found 34 teeth, not including ones made of plaster, but including an almost whole snaggletooth shark tooth, so not a complete waste. Water temp was 79.

Someone from a local fossil club plants them. His initials are WC and I have number 2220. I felt ripped. This one wasn't even painted.:D

It was nice meeting and diving with you Jeff and Brian. What a beautiful day for diving!! Second dive was 86 min with max depth of 18 fsw. Vis did start to taper off toward the end of the dive, but otherwise was about the same 3-5 feet earlier.

I found ~30 teeth, none big enough to brag about. We saw a sea-hose and a pipe fish, and several crabs hiding in the vegetation. Let me know if you guys want to get together again sometime; I enjoyed the dives!! :)

Absolutely amazing day! For the second dive, we went our pretty far and saw quite a bit of interesting marine life in the vegetation.

Lee, I think I've identified the coconut with legs:

I should be able to dive most weekends and am up for trying anything within a few hours of Tampa. Maybe a river dive for fossils? spring dive? marine aquarium collection dive?

Thanks again for the dives Jeff and Lee

Brian

I'm out there about every weekend. This weekend is an exception (garage sale), but anytime.

Harvo was talking a couple of months ago about doing the Peace River up by Shell creek. Apparently a good site for Mastadon teeth, megs, and other fossils. He's waiting until winter when the gators settle down some and the water is a bit lower.

Peace River... thats a dive best left for December through March or April.. the river is best fossiled during the lower months. This year should be good due to the river being pushed over flood stage several times. Current information for the river can be seen here: http://peacerivercampground.com/river_views.htm

One thing to note, the state of FL doesnt mind us diving from beaches to get fossils, but away from the shore line its considered palentology and we need to get a permit which is a whole whopping $5 I believe.

Around December I was going to do some scouting around up there to learn more about which areas may be more likely to yeild a day of diving fun then plan a scubaboard trip to the region. If anyone is interested in jumping in the tanisin colored water with me, your more than welcome. I do have a canoe that will be with me in the water.. never know when your going to find a mammoth tusk or big bones!

I'm in. I know of an area in Shell Creek (off the Peace River) that's supposed to be a good site, and it's State owned land.
