Fortune Pond, MI

Has anybody been diving at Fortune Pond in the UP? My LDS says it has 80-100 viz and walls that rival Wazee, WI. This sounds very inviting, but just wanted verification of this. Also, are there tank fills available nearby?

I have.... Its great spot to dive. Its in Crystal Falls Mi, About 35 miles away from iron mt. About an hour drive from Marquette. Viz is amazing good depth to about 130ish until you hit the coffee water then viz goes to 0' in seconds.... Diver beware. Take fills would be in Marquette at diver down scuba on 3rd street. I have dove it several times including ICE dives. Great time!!!!If you go make sure you check out the NMU DIVERS plaque that sits at 70' right off the main dock. Good luck and have fun.

I'll second Dudley's comensts. I dived there a couple of years ago and the vis was great. The walls are shear. There is a structure, maybe remnants of a building from the mining days just below the dock. I did not drop below 80', there is a second drop off that starts there, if memory serves the vis was not quite as good down that deep off that second drop off. If you go in the summer - watch out for the fire ants!
It is a fun dive.
